Preparing for your Arrival

Please visit the New to Lehigh website. We summarize the key points below, but this site offers the most comprehensive list of what new employees need to do.

  1. After you receive a written offer letter, you will receive onboarding information including the Preparing For Your Arrival. Fill out the following forms and bring your documentation with you to the Human Resources Office on or before your first day of work. Once your forms are complete, you will schedule an I-9 appointment with Human Resources (inI9@lehigh.edu).  HR will provide you with instructions on what documents to bring to your appointment.  Questions about forms can be directed to your department coordinator/business manager.
  2. International postdocs should notify OISS (Office of International Students and Scholars) of their arrival date as soon as they know it.  You will provided with additional information about checking in with OISS and any additional OISS orientation once you have secured your arrival date.  They are located at 32 Sayre Drive,
  3. Complete your background checks, preview Lehigh benefits, learn the campus, and confirm your date, time and place of arrival - details >
  4. Email a photo to create your Lehigh Photo ID here, which you can pick up on your first day. Get your Lehigh parking permit here.

Your First Day

  1. Visit your faculty mentor and department business office.
  2. Obtain your LIN/PIN, which you will need to then pick up your Lehigh ID card and set up your email.  Details here >
  3. Get connected with current postdocs through the Google group and Slack Channel.

Your First Week

  1. Enroll in your benefits within 30 days of your start date. Follow the Benefits Enrollment Guide on the HR site. Make sure you attend the next available HR Benefits Orientation session.
  2. Complete the required online compliance training for protection of minors and workplace harassment and discrimination.
  3.  If applicable, apply for a U.S. Social Security number.  OISS has information about applying for an SSN on their website.  Please note that you must complete OISS's required check-in process before you can apply for your SSN.
