The Office of Postdoctoral Affairs invite postdocs and senior PhD students to apply for the Faculty Job Search Workshop Series, running July 9, 16, and 23, 2025 in HST 211.

Application deadline: June 24, 2025  
Light breakfast and lunch provided each day
Faculty facilitators: Professors Jessecae Marsh, Lesley Chow, and Dominic Packer


About the Workshop

This interactive series is designed to help early-career scholars interested in tenure-track positions prepare a strong, complete set of academic job application materials before job postings go live.   Participants will receive practical guidance, real examples, and in-depth feedback on:

  • Academic CV
  • Cover Letter
  • Research Statement (with integrated broader impacts)
  • Teaching Statement

Session Format & Expectations

Each in-person session takes place from 9:00 AM–3:00 PM in HST 211.

Morning block (9:00–12:15) – Required

  • Faculty-led presentations and interactive discussion
  • Sets the foundation for the afternoon work and feedback
     

Afternoon block (12:15–3:00) – Optional but strongly encouraged

  • Structured writing time
  • One-on-one or small group feedback with faculty and staff

Senior Postdocs who are actively applying this fall and have already been on the job market may choose to opt out of the first session (July 9), which covers foundational material on the job cycle, CVs, and cover letters.


Workshop Dates & Topics

  • July 9: Understanding the academic job market, tailoring materials, and preparing CVs and cover letters
  • July 16: Writing research statements that highlight scholarly vision and broader impacts
  • July 23: Crafting teaching statements aligned with institutional priorities and evidence-based practices
